Books That Make You Smarter

About the books and the author

Five plain-English guides, written by someone who has spent a career explaining things to a room.

What this site is

Books That Make You Smarter is the home of five plain-English guides by Paul Kendall: Influence at Any Age on becoming a content creator, AI Explained: So Easy, Your Grandma Will Understand, The Complete Canadian ADU Handbook, Live Well Abroad, and The True Cost of Dating Apps.

Two of the books are on Kindle now. The other three are due in the coming weeks. Each one starts with a question a real reader would ask and answers it without jargon. On the home page you can read a sample of each book, hear an audio sample, browse the artwork, and find the Kindle links.

About the author

Paul 'PK' Kendall is an independent entrepreneur based in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, and a Canadian and American citizen. He spent a decade in the newspaper industry, then moved into screenwriting, TV format development and building apps. He has pitched projects directly to Chuck Lorre, Jamie Foxx, Fox TV, Disney Digital, Techstars, and an Emmy-winning producer of The Simpsons who is also a former Nickelodeon vice-president.

Paul has been a professional DJ in Southern Ontario since 1989. He worked campus bars and nightclubs and ran a DJ service for more than a decade. He records music as Derk Swade on his own label, Phillistine Records, and his releases are distributed through DistroKid to 24 platforms. You can hear them at derkswade.com.

He worked in real-estate marketing with Keller Williams and Coldwell Banker in Studio City, California, then spent about five years in the housing sector, including the accessory dwelling unit (ADU) industry in Guelph. That experience led to The Complete Canadian ADU Handbook. He also builds and runs a portfolio of more than 25 web properties through his business, PGK Sales.

How the books are made

Paul directs every book and is responsible for what is in it. The text is written with the help of AI writing tools, and the illustrations are made with AI image tools. Each book says so on its copyright page. The people shown in the illustrations are not real, and plans and diagrams are examples, not construction documents. The audio samples on this site are read by AI voices.

Accuracy and corrections

The books are general information. They are not legal, tax, medical, financial or professional advice. Rules, prices and websites change, so where a fact can go out of date, the book tells you where to check it. The written samples on this site are taken word for word from the books.

If you spot a mistake in a book or on this site, please email [email protected] with the book title and the page or chapter. Corrections are made as soon as they are checked.

Where to buy

The books are sold as Kindle e-books on Amazon.
